Party Recap: Llama Llama Red Pajama

We just threw one of the most fun birthday parties to date. My youngest, Ben, turned 2- what a whirlwind of a year! His most favorite books to read are the Llama Llama series by Anna Dewdney, so what better way to celebrate than with a breakfast and PJ themed party?

For little kid parties, I like to use bright colors and dots. It's whimsical, but also still sweet and young. I wanted to add some flare to the invite, so I scalloped the edges and added a cute red and white plaid liner to the envelope. Once the invites were in the mail, the real planning began.

After chatting with my mom about the menu (I always enlist her baking skills and thank goodness! She makes the best mini muffins, like, ever.) I decided I was going to attempt to make a headboard for the food table. Hear me out. This headboard was NOT hard to design. Finding someone to print a coroplast sign large enough was my issue. But alas, I was able to source a local print shop and off my headboard design went!

Originally I had planned to have my mom make a "picnic" looking table cloth, but that didn't scream "brunch" and wasn't quite the theme I was going for. Instead, I borrowed a vintage quilt from my mom and made the food table look just like a BED. Headboard + Vintage Quilt = Food Table Heaven. It was so stinkin' cute. I sprinkled some oversized confetti around the serving pieces which added the perfect amount of detail. (Have I mentioned that my mom also made Ben's pj's? I mean, gosh- they are exactly like Llama's in the book!)

Normally when we attend parties, there is an activity or game planned. I wasn't sure how six kids ranging in age from 14 months to 3 years would behave, so instead of a game, we made cereal necklaces with yummy Fruit Loops! I purchased shoe laces with the wax/plastic ends and each kid (and mama) strung the cereal onto the lace. These turned out so sweet and the kids really got into it!

After the necklace making, it was cake time! I ordered a buttercream frosted cake, added some sprinkles, a fondant Llama topper and a "2" candle and let the birthday boy make a wish. Truly one of the sweetest moments of the party.

And what's a party without a place to have your picture taken? I set up a fashion backdrop using a fun banner and tissue paper garland to create great photos of guests in their pjs.

Curious about the menu? I served mini muffins, pancake popper made in my Baby Cakes machine, pigs in a blanket, donuts, individual boxes of cereal, mini jugs of milk, watermelon punched out with cookie cutters to spell BEN and served skewer style with other yummy fruits, mini cinnamon rolls with sprinkles, personalized M&M's and GoGurt. My cute bar cart held ingredients for Mimosas for the adults and juice boxes for the kids.

Throughout the house, I had helium filled balloons sporting the colorful confetti. On the front door, I had a 2 foot tall pinata that looked like a donut in the shape of a 2. I love to keep a momento from each party I throw, so I made an 8 x 10" page with Ben's 2 year picture on it for each guest to sign.

At the end of the party, each child got to take home a custom made, hand appliqued toddler pillow case and Llama board book. These favors were the perfect ending to a perfect party.

Party Recap: American Ninja, Baby!

Another party on the books. This time, it was ninja-style. Bring it on, baby! We got to design the party details for a sweet 7 year old and all his pals. Cupcake toppers and water bottle labels added the perfect touch to this boy-ish party! And his mama even ordered him some thank you notes. Atta, girl! Check out the pics below!

We are so lucky to work with such great clients! For this party, we supplied the party details to really pull this shindig off! Custom everything, from cupcake toppers to cups, napkins and favor labels...you can even see our melamine plate in use while the birthday boy gets sung to!

Party Recap: SHHHAAAAARRRKKK!!!!!!

When my son told me he wanted a shark themed birthday party, I won't lie, I was a bit stumped. Having never planned an animal/fish/mammal party before, I decided to start with the venue. It was important to me to have a space where kids could enjoy the party, have an activity to participate in, but more importantly, burn off some energy! (I mean, we are talking about Kindergartners here!)

After talking with the folks at the aquarium, I decided that location would best suited for a smaller group. Next on my list, The Aqua Shop. I gave them a call and visited the store and was sold! This place was perfect. It's an indoor surf shop with a retail section as well. The Aqua Shop has bounce houses, a back room for parties, and indoor surfing. I booked the shop and began to think about the invitations.

I am a huge fan of adding "bling" or "flare" to all my invites. It's the extra detail that really makes the invitations special. For this invite, I chose to do a 4 x 9" so I could add my "flare" aka plastic shark to the back so each kid would have something to remind them of the cool party about to happen. I also hand cut shark bite marks into each invite. (Again, it's all about the details!)

Since this party was on location at The Aqua Shop, I decided to keep the dessert table simple. I ordered wave patterned fabric and had a table cloth made. The party favors were super fun sharks, sunglasses and a shark tooth candy necklace. I used the party favors to decorate the table. I had custom m&m's made, which were a hit to kids and grandparents alike! I also used Swedish Fish to accent the table.

The party was during lunch, so I brought Chick-fil-A nuggets in with chips and juice boxes. And let's not forget the fruit! I made a watermelon shark and added green grapes. I found the tutorial here. The kids were in awe (and it was SO easy!).

I ordered a sheet cake from my local bakery and asked them to make the icing look like waves because I had a great idea brewing in my mind. I found a plastic shark at Toys R Us, cut it in half like I did for my dino party (see the tutorial here), and had the cutest cake!

To get some cute pics, I ordered a diecut shark head and a personalized wooden surf board. Using these simple props made the pictures more fun to take and the kids were really interacting with each other.

Sneak Peek: Baby Boy Baseball Shower

Whenever a client hires me to do a party for them, I go all out. As I've said before though, the first piece of the party the guests will see is the invitation so it is IMPERATIVE that the invite grab their attention and make them want to see the rest of the detail put into the event.

This client is showering her sister-in-law with a baby shower, baseball themed. (And with all boys in my house, this was right up my alley!) More to come after the event...I cannot wait to show off the party details!

A Striped Save the Date

Who doesn't love a good stripe? When it came time to design a save the date for a pal I knew from the good ol' junior high days, I was giddy. I have been waiting to do this save the date and I knew she would appreciate the modern-ness of it, the simplicity, and the type styles I used.

This save the date can easily be turned into a wedding shower, baby shower, or birthday invite- just say the word and we'll get you a sweet, striped and sassy invitation!

Shark Valentine, It was O-fish-ally sweet!

My house these days is all about sharks. Shark birthday, shark noises, shark books from the library. Only fitting that the dude wanted shark valentines! In true fashion, I recruited my mom and brother to assist with this one. I needed to cut 20 sharks, hot glue clothespins, insert candy and slap a label on. To say it was a process is putting it lightly.

With my helpers in tow, it took us about an hour to get these valentine's made and they were the talk of the classroom! My sweet boy was so excited to hand them to all his pals!
